It’s Premier League match time at Villa Park on Saturday, December 11, when Aston Villa host West Brom Albion in match week 17.
Like most Brits we craved for a bit of winter sun as well as the current climate within the UK fairly a lot pushed us onto a plane without too very much resistance.
Of course us Brits like Spain resulting from its close proximity and abundance of English speaking residents especially in the South. However we had a hankering for something that got us close towards the warmer parts but not the “bucket and spade brigade”.
Aston Villa are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Liverpool, their fourth defeat on the trot. With just 1 win in their last 10 games, Villa are low on confidence. The game at Anfield brought their defensive frailties towards the fore, plus the squad had been especially vulnerable to set-pieces.
Modern looking, private pool, all mod cons and also a view to die for. I was just a little hesitant at having to drive 45 minutes from Malaga Airport up the coast and into the hills but in reality the drive was so easy on 1 straight road I had absolutely nothing to fear.
The villa we rented was perched on a sloping hillside just outside a delightful village called Alcaucin, described as a “chocolate box” village and absolutely lived up to its reputation. Below was Lake Vinuela a gorgeous blue ocean tucked between the rolling hills. We already felt relaxed.
West Brom recorded a convincing 3-1 win over Newcastle in match week 16, their very first league win over the Magpies in 18 attempts, over a quarter- century. Two back-to-back wins have taken the Baggies to ninth position within the table. After they went ahead on 32 minutes via a Tchoyi strike, Newcastle got an opportunity to equalise quickly right after the interval but Carson was equalt to the task as he saved a Taylor shot.
Inside the air conditioned villa we had every thing we needed. three smart bedrooms, two clean bathrooms, contemporary kitchen, lounge and diner all kitted out with dwelling comforts. not that we had been going to invest lots of time here but it was great to know we were not going to slum it. Outside we had our own private pool, brick BBQ region and sun terrace with wonderful views down the hillside.
After 16 match weeks, Aston Villa are in 16th position in the points table, on the brink of the relegation zone, while West Brom have jumped up to ninth.
