<p> Correct practices to increase your vertical leap is very COUNTER INTUITIVE.</p>
<p> The vertical jump is an explosion caused by the intense tightening of fast twitch muscle fibers.  Because of this, vertical jump training is &#8220;anaerobic.&#8221;  All too often athletes are training in a way that endurance].</p>
<p> How should the training be different?</p>
<p> Basketball players have been told that long distance running would increase their vertical. That is huge misconception. Training with the cross country team can cause your vertical jump to shrink.</p>
<p> Sprinting, like jumping is a much less aerobic exercise.  Do you see [a sprinter running the 2 mile run as part of their training for sprinting? NEVER! Then why do so many vertical jump programs make us PACING ourselves during our vertical leap training regimes?</p>
<p> NEVER NEVER NEVER PACE YOURSELF [WHILE!</p>
<p> Maybe you have also seen these before. Athletes &#8220;running the stairs&#8221; or out of breath from doing speed ladder drills. Or maybe you jump rope for 20 minutes and you are worn out.. you are going to say to yourself, &#8220;Now that was tough, certainly that will increase my vertical.&#8221;</p>
<p> These are not examples of training explosively, so they are NOT going to be able to improve explosive actions. I guarantee you, they will be disappointed. You have to train explosively and not endurance to increase your vertical leap.</p>
<p> &#8220;Explosive&#8221; training will not feel right to start with.  You won&#8217;t get the same burn as training aerobically.  In a few ways explosion traing is easier, it just requires much more focus and short term energy.</p>

<p> Warm Ups<br /> Prior to starting the exercises, you need to warm up your muscles. Jog around for ten minutes or run up and down s few sets of stairs. <p> Skipping Rope<br /> Jumping rope is an exercise that should not be overlooked, as it can contribute to improving the strength of your legs. Moreover, it promotes maintaining excellent cardiovascular condition. Do this exercise for 15 to thirty minutes on a regular basis.</p>
<p> Knee Raises<br /> Grab an overhead bar securely, with your arms about shoulder-width apart. Hang from the overhead bar, with your arms fully extended and knees bent slightly. Holding this position, slowly raise your knees towards your chest. Concentrate on contracting your stomach muscles during this process. Maintain this position for several seconds, before lowering your legs back down. Repeat the process 5 times.</p>
<p> Knee Bends<br /> One of the top exercises to improve the strength of your legs is with knee bends (also called squats). Stand upright &#8211; straight, with chest out and keeping your back tight. Proceed to bend your knees slowly, maintaining a straight back. Crouch, in a slow movement, as far down as possible. Repeat this process 20 times.</p>
<p> Toe Touches<br /> Stand straight. Bend from the waist while keeping your knees locked. Continue bending down as far as you can go while trying to touch your toes with your fingers. Sustain this stance for a few seconds. This exercise should be done slowly and do not &#8220;bounce&#8221; while trying to touch your toes. Repeat this thirty times.</p>
<p> Sit-Ups<br /> Sit-ups can help improve your vertical leap. Begin this exercise laying with your back flat on the floor, with your knees bent, and your feet flat on the floor. Place you hands behind your head. Now, curl your shoulders from the floor, in a slow movement. Continue to sit up. Do not &#8220;pull&#8221; on your head with your hands. Concentrate on making your stomach do the work. Exercises for your midsection are crucial for all physical activity as it is the &#8220;core&#8221; area of your body. Repeat this exercise 10-20 times.</p>

Bring the barbell up until you are standing upright with the barbell hanging across your thighs. Gradually lower the weight back down. Complete three sets of 6-8 repetitions. To steer clear of injury, do not jerk the bar, but carry out the exercise quickly and steadily. Take a brief rest after these first 3 sets. Do one last set in a much slower way this time.</p>

Make sure to extend your reach and try to get the ball as high as you can. Practicing this exercise helps all the muscles necessary for this movement to become strong. Remember to push yourself to the max.</p>
